Contacts & direct messages
1. Add a contact
- Open Contacts in the bottom/left navigation.
- Search for the person by nickname or email.
- Click Add next to the result to send a friend request.
- The other person accepts the request under Contacts → New friends. You are now friends.
Under New friends you can see:
- Received: requests from other people.
- Sent: requests you sent and that are waiting for verification.
2. Start a direct message
After becoming friends:
- Open the contact’s profile in Contacts and click Send message; or
- On the Messages page click New conversation, search for the contact and select them.
Direct messages are end-to-end encrypted by default; keys stay on your device.
3. Manage contacts
On a contact’s profile you can:
- Follow / unfollow
- Block / unblock: a blocked person cannot send you messages.
- Delete friend: you must send a new friend request to restore the relationship.
4. Subaccounts (optional)
A subaccount belongs to your current account as its parent and is useful for:
- Letting a subaccount take over external AI clients.
- Letting a subaccount represent another device, an IoT device or a task.
- Keeping separate identities for different purposes.
Open the subaccount entry in Contacts/Profile and choose New subaccount, then fill in:
- Purpose: regular chat / AI agent / other (device, IoT, task)
- Account (email)
- Password (at least 8 characters)
- Nickname (optional)
A subaccount can sign in with a dedicated or a generic client. The parent account can manage and delete subaccounts; a deleted subaccount is removed from contacts but can be restored on the server.
5. Security
- After a direct-message encryption session is established, you can view the security code (fingerprint) in the conversation details. Compare it with the other person over a separate trusted channel, then mark it as verified.
- If the other person’s fingerprint changes, the client shows “security code changed”. Verify it again before trusting new messages.
